One year later, Rachel Jeantel graduates high school, blames herself for racist juryJuly 15, 2014
Rachel Jeantel never expected the amount of scrutiny placed on her when she was pushed into the national spotlight last June when she took the stand as the prosecution’s ‘star witness’ in the trial that found George Zimmerman not guilty in the murder of Trayvon Martin.
From the moment she flashed across our television screens, Rachel was consistently teased and tormented because of how she looked and the fact that she, at the time, could only read at a third grade reading level.
She recently sat down with CNN and revealed that after the trial ended she partially blamed herself for the verdict.

CNN: Were you blaming yourself when George Zimmerman went free.
RJ: A little bit.
CNN: Did you think you should have said something different, or acted differently.
RJ: Yeah, act different.
CNN: You think the jurors didn’t take you seriously?
RJ: They judged how they talk how they look, how they dress.
CNN: And they were judging you?
RJ: Yes.

In the year since the trial, Rachel has worked hard to turn her life around and to keep a promise she made to her friend Trayvon — which was that she’d graduate high school. She told CNN that she was able to use the stress of the trial to motivate her to complete her goal of graduating high school, saying
“I kept my word to Trayvon that I would do this.”

Congratulations, Rachel! You are not responsible for the ignorant racism/classism of those not-guilty-voting jurors. Stay strong. <3

Rachel was so freaking brave. I hope great things happen for her.

Realness

Or maybe white supremacy is the problem and euro-centric beauty standards have been forced on black women for centuries?

you realize there are other countries in Africa than Egypt right? not everyone descended from Egyptian royalty

Ankhshit.
You don’t get to degrade black women  while passing up and ignoring the fact that great black women in history were strategically erased like it’s our faults we don’t know. And pointing to egyptian queens, I get it, I used to do it. I understand why you are doing it but really there are millions of outstanding black women in history that are there that YOU don’t know about either.
so erm, instead of coming for us, how about you read a book. You are a part of the problem.

Who’s this stupid bitch defending her ignorance? She prolly has a Marilyn Monroe tattoo

Hey there. You make two  assumptions. One that I’m ignorant about black history/culture. I’ll admit for years I was. Like you all I thought that black women’s greatness in history was comprised of was  Egyptians greats, Harriet Tubman, and the few acceptable black women that we are permitted to learn about in the US ED system.
The thing is, and I’ll continue to say it, if you actually read what I posted before you’ll see again that there has been a great effort put in to conceal what happened in black history after slavery and civil rights.
I get why black folks covet Egyptians. I really do. For a lot of us it was the first time we saw ourselves outfitted in history in something besides chains. Our parents and grand parents, different 90’s hip hop groups, and the little that we learned via pan african community events would teach us that we came from kings and queens.
And while it’s possible that some of us did, by focusing soley on Egyptians we miss out., ignore, and erase every other country/society within the continent of Africa.
So back to the picture…the comparison doesn’t’ make sense. You called me dumb yet  you missed out the fact that if Ankh nation were trying to come for black women for being ignorant about our culture a better comparison would be Dorthy Dandridge, Ella Fitzgerald, Pearl Bailey, Ethel Waters, Ruby Dee, Hazel Scott, Eartha Kit, Dihanne Carroll, Beah Richards,  oh and of course Maya Angelou.
I’m not going to call you dumb though. You didn’t know about most of them for the same reason that the OP made this just horrible comparison in the attempt to shame black women: Ignorance.
But you’ve got a list of names to research now. I suggest you get into them, especially considering it’s more likely you are related to one of them than Cleopatra.

how are you going to pretend to be here for black women while calling one a stupid bitch? weak
anyway…
lets not forget

“Ella Fitzgerald was not allowed to play at the popular Mocambo, in Hollywood, because of her race. Marilyn, who loved her music and supported civil rights, called the owner of the Mocambo and told him that if he booked Ella immediately, she would take a front table every night. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. After that, Ella never had to play in a small jazz club again.
"She was an unusual woman – a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it." - Ella Fitzgerald about Marilyn Monroe" (x)
I’m not sure why you’re even comparing the two but besides that…women can like whomever they want and they’re not the problem.

the legend

This makes me so happy, and yet so sad.

He was smart, he was a writer (you could tell by his phrasing) and this is something he TRULY cares about. That boy has a heart and he cares. He sees the truth for what it is and he refuses to sit idly and watch as the youth of america just stumbles by.

BUT the teacher was done. She didn’t care. She was fed up.

BUT the students were uncaring, even laughing, as this young man walked out

BUT this video was put online to be deemed as a joke and embarrass that boy.

THAT is unexceptionable

THAT is not right.

If you are this young gentleman  if you are his relative, or if you have ever done something similar.

I am so proud of you

To take your opinion and share. NOT ONCE did he threaten her, NOT ONCE did he raise his voice above a proper projection so that the class could hear his words  NOT ONCE did he insult her in any means past how she was behaving with her job. He didn’t undermine her. He didn’t hurt her, and yet he gave his message and left in peace.

That makes him a true, undeniable, super hero in my eyes.

Thank you sir.

My mom, an elementary school teacher, clapped an applauded this boy when I showed this to her.

That boy is great

hot damn this kid knows where it’s at

I hope this kid doesn’t feel disheartened by the lack of support he received from his classmates. I hope he continues to stay strong in what he believes! His words truly spoke to me, so I felt the need to reblog and pass on this message.

I feel exactly what he is saying. And this is the exact reason I hated college. What the hell are you for? To hand me a package? If so you could’ve left it on the table for me. Or maybe you’re here to teach/demonstrate?

Istg I thought he was rapping for a sec.

Where do I begin.

So I had the misfortune of finding out that a photo taken of me on vacation by my boyfriend, was stolen and used without my permission here on the lovely r/fatpeoplehate on reddit. It not only disappoints me that people think that this behavior is okay, but that this subreddit even exists and hasn’t been removed at this point. There are TONS of photos of (mostly) women posted there; selfies stolen their personal blogs/facebooks/instagrams what have you (WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION), and posted on this horrible subreddit for people to harass them and leave hundreds of negative comments bravely behind their computer screens where no one can see them. I have always struggled with my weight and found it hard to get dressed and leave my bed some days, and have only recently started to accept the person I am after years of depression and health issues. I feel extremely violated and hurt that someone thought it was okay to take something that isn’t theirs, and use it for their own amusement and kicks.

We have since contacted reddit requesting them to remove this subreddit, but I find that doubtful considering how many removal requests they have probably received in the past for this forum, and it still remains active.

All I ask from you guys, is that you can please signal boost this post and hopefully get this horrible subreddit taken down for good for the sake of the poor unsuspecting people whose privacy has been violated and self worth diminished by these garbage people who have nothing better to do.

xoxo

Darshana

Fuck these people. Help me friend and many others who were violated and repost!

This brought tears to my eyes. What is the sense of hating??
